Clinical investigation of nanocolloid 99mTe-Al2O3 for sentinel Iymph nodes visualization

| Summary: | Title screen Purpose: to study the feasibility of using of nanocolloid 99mТс-Аl2O3 for sentinel lymph node visualization in women with breast cancer. . Materials and methods: Nanocolloid 99mТс-Аl2O3 with size of nanoparticles 80-100 nm coated with organic covering was studied. During passage through the lymphatic way nanoparticles lose organic coating and strongly accumulate in the sentinel lymph nodes without redistribution. The study included 10 women with breast cancer. 99mTc-Al2O3 was injected peritumoral in four points to 30 MBq. SPECT study was performed at 3 and 18 hours after injection, intraoperative detection was executed by gamma probe at 20 hours after injection. Results: Sentinel lymph nodes were detected in all 10 patients, the total number of lymph nodes were 11. All nodes located in the axillary region. Accumulation of 99mТс- Аl2O3 in sentinel lymph nodes in 3 hours was 8+4% (from 6 to 12%), after 18 hours - 11+3% (9 to 14%) and after 20 hours - 12+4% (9 to 13%). Histological examination revealed metastatic lesion of sentinel lymph nodes in 3 patients and two of them had metastases in the distal nodes. In 7 patients metastatic lesion of sentinel lymph nodes and distal nodes wasn't revealed. Conclusion: the clinical study of 99mТс-Аl2O3, a new radiopharmaceutical agent, have shown that the studied nanocolloid can be successfully used for visualization of sentinel lymph nodes.
