A mathematical model for the growth of a spherical nucleus of a solid-state reaction product is proposed. The model takes into account the mutual influence of diffusion and deformation processes. Critical conditions of nucleus growth and reaction regimes in the nucleus are studied. The model parameters are estimated for various substances. An analogy between this problem and the problem of spot thermal ignition is established.
