In the present study we synthesized powdered tungsten carbide from tungsten ore concentrate in an open-air environment. This is possible due to the self-shielding effect caused by generation of carbon oxide and carbon dioxide gases. The initial material - ore concentrate - were prepared with magnetic separation, drying and milling. Obtained powders were analyzed with X-Ray diffractometry, tungsten carbide was identified in synthesized samples.
