The surface redox properties of the iron-ceramic composites based on nitrides of boron, silicon and sialon have been investigated using Hammett indicators following Tanabe method with spectrophotometric indication. Lewis basic active sites prevail on the surface of boron nitride and sialon based composites, and Bronsted acidic sites prevail on the surface of silica nitride based composite. The identification of the composites surface active sites has been done.
