The readiness of foreign students to study by e-learning is considered in the article. E-learning is regarded by National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University like much promise direction of education. This system of education supposes self-study of students using electronic teaching textbooks prepared by teachers. Authors describe experiment that was made to estimate the level of self-dependent work of foreign students. Observational results show deficient level of motivation, orderliness and responsibility of freshmen. On the basis of the results authors suggest the conclusions and the guidelines about actions and organizational steps, which could increase readiness of foreign students to e-learning transition.
