Summary:The synthesis of cordierite in mixtures composed of argillaceous and magnesian raw materials from a number of deposits in Siberia (Tomsk, Novosibirsk, Irkutsk, and Kemerovo Districts) is studied experimentally. Mixtures based on the clay from the Veselovskoe deposit (Ukraine) are used as a reference. A VMTs-25-1 centrifugal vibromill was used for activating the precursor materials. Two factors simultaneously applied - mechanochemical activation and structure-forming additions - provide conditions for lowering the temperature and increasing the degree of synthesis. A technique for synthesis of cordierite with the simultaneous sintering of components (blocks of catalyst carriers with cellular structure) at 1200° C has been developed at the G. K. Boreskov Institute of Catalysis
